Today, the Western Australian Governor, Christopher Dawson AC APM, appointed Mr Eamon Ryan for a second five-year term as the Inspector of Custodial Services.
Mr Ryan was initially appointed to the role in May 2019. Since then, he has published more than 40 reports examining conditions within Western Australia’s custodial estate providing a strong, independent voice for performance improvement and the rights of people in custody.
Mr Ryan is honoured to be continuing the opportunity to ensure a high level of integrity, accountability, and transparency for the closed custodial system.
‘It is a great privilege to undertake this role and I am very happy to be offered a second term. My focus for the office over the next few years will continue to be on youth justice, mental health services for people in custody, and the impact of record highs in the adult prison population.’
