Boronia Pre-release Centre for Women is the only minimum-security, pre-release facility for women in Western Australia. It opened in 2004 and can accommodate up to 95 residents.
There is capacity for children, up to the age of four, to reside there with their mums. And children, up to the age of 12, can have overnight visits with their mums. This is one of the most valued, reintegration opportunities the Boronia provides.
The facility is nestled amongst aged care residences and tertiary education institutions in a suburb just eight kilometres from the Perth CBD. It fits in architecturally with its neighbours, with nothing to indicate that it is a custodial facility. This is appropriate given its purpose as a reintegration centre.
