Albany Regional Prison is a maximum security facility. Its focus includes managing Aboriginal, foreign national and long term prisoners. Albany has a longstanding record as one of the state’s best prisons.

This was fourth inspection of Bunbury Regional Prison and the first of the Pre-release Unit, the State’s newest male minimum security facility. The prison and PRU were performing well but compromised by overcrowding and elevated worker’s compensation levels.

Casuarina Prison is the state’s main male maximum security facility. This inspection found Casuarina to be severely overcrowded. Management and staff were competently managing the pressures, but the infrastructure was inadequate.
