This report follows the fifth inspection of Bandyup Women’s Prison. Years of inaction and a lack of investment have taken a toll on Bandyup, leading the Inspector to describe it as ‘the hardest and most neglected prison in the state’.

Pardelup Prison Farm was a well-run minimum security reintegration facility for males. Pardelup provided its prisoners with a good range of work and training, and appropriate re-entry support. The prison also provided produce for the prison system.

Casuarina is the state’s main male maximum security prison. This inspection found Casuarina to be crowded, and struggling to fulfil its multiple roles. Management and staff were competent, but the infrastructure was inadequate.
