Bandyup Women’s Prison is located on Whadjuk Noongar land, in the suburb of West Swan, Perth, Western Australia.
Bandyup is the state’s primary prison for women prisoners. The prison is also responsible for accommodating women prisoners with complex needs, including many who are on remand.
Bandyup opened in 1970 as the state’s first separate women’s prison. It had a single unit, now known as Unit 1. Until Melaleuca Women’s Prison opened in late 2016, Bandyup also served as the metropolitan receival centre for all women.
